Magis M Top: Alpha’s new R290 monobloc heat pump

19 May 2026

Alpha has expanded its renewable heating technology range with the launch of the Magis M Top, an R290 monobloc air source heat pump designed for both new build and retrofit residential properties.

Engineered to deliver heating, cooling and domestic hot water from a single system, the Magis M Top can achieve flow temperatures of up to 75°C, making it suitable for a wide range of domestic heating applications.

Using advanced inverter technology, the Magis M Top automatically adjusts its output in line with real-time heating demand. This helps maximise performance while reducing electricity consumption, particularly during milder conditions when full output is unnecessary. The result is improved seasonal efficiency and lower running costs for homeowners.

The Magis M Top uses natural refrigerant gas R290, which offers high thermal efficiency alongside an extremely low global warming potential (GWP), providing a more environmentally responsible alternative to conventional synthetic refrigerants used in many heating systems.

What is R290 refrigerant?

R290 is a natural refrigerant that is becoming increasingly popular in heat pump technology due to its low environmental impact and excellent thermal performance. Compared to traditional synthetic refrigerants, R290 has a significantly lower global warming potential, helping support lower carbon heating solutions while maintaining high efficiency and strong heating performance.

Designed with installers in mind, the Magis M Top does not require F-Gas certification, helping widen the pool of professionals able to install the system and making specification and installation more accessible.

“The Magis M Top gives installers a genuinely capable heat pump. It’s designed to perform across a wide range of homes and heating set-ups, while making installation as straightforward as possible. That’s the Alpha approach,” said Darran Smith.

Available in six output versions, the Magis M Top offers flexibility across a variety of project requirements. The system can be installed as a standalone unit, configured in cascade as part of a centralised system, or combined with an Alpha boiler for hybrid heating solutions.
