St Joseph’s Catholic Church, located in Glasgow, has undertaken a significant upgrade to its heating system with the installation of two Alpha ProTec 115 NX boilers. This project replaced the church’s outdated and failed standard efficiency cast iron boilers, which had been providing heat to the building for several decades. The decision to install the new high-efficiency boilers was driven by the need for a more reliable, energy-efficient, and sustainable heating solution for this historic place of worship. Additionally, a new Alpha plate heat exchanger was incorporated to enhance the overall performance and longevity of the system. The installation also comes with the added peace of mind of a 10-year warranty on the system, ensuring long-term reliability for the church.
Given the importance of maintaining a comfortable environment for regular worship services and events there was a clear need for an upgrade to a modern and efficient heating system. The church also wanted to ensure that the new installation would be able to meet the heating demands of the building while being cost-effective in the long run.
After evaluating several options, the decision was made to replace the old cast iron boilers with two Alpha ProTec NX boilers. These high-efficiency, modern condensing boilers are designed to maximize energy use, ensuring a more efficient operation and lower running costs. Its wide 1:10 modulation range enables the boiler to run at a low output with fewer on/off cycles, reducing emissions and increasing component longevity. All Alpha ProTec NX boilers are provided with new generation electronics, offering flexibility with multiple programmable relays, incorporating new communication protocols Modbus & Open/Therm.
Available in six individual outputs ranging from 48kW up to 180kW, the ProTec NX boiler range has the capability of cascading to achieve higher outputs and increase load flexibility. The installation of two ProTec 115 NX boilers at St Joseph’s Catholic Church allows for even distribution of the heating load, avoiding the premature deterioration of one lead boiler compared to the other. It also enables the continuation of the heating function even when maintenance on one of the connected appliances is required.
