FLOWSMART PROVIDES AN INTELLIGENT SOLUTION FOR PORTISHEAD FAMILY HOME

Offering exceptional energy efficiency, the Alpha FlowSmart combi boiler solution has been installed to meet the heating and hot water requirements of a newly-modernised family home in the coastal town of Portishead, near Bristol.

The new owners of the five bedroom house were looking to upgrade the existing and outdated heating and hot water system to meet the demands of a four-adult household. In order to not take up valuable space in the remodelled kitchen and dining room, it was imperative the system could be installed in an out-of-the way part of the house. The family also wanted to free up space in their airing cupboard. To meet the challenge, the appointed heating engineer recommended Alpha’s wall-hung FlowSmart system, comprising an InTec 40GS2 combi boiler with built-in GasSaver and wall-hung thermal store, plus a Climatic RF wireless control to maximise efficiency.

The cost-competitive solution can be easily installed in a range of locations, with the attic providing the optimum space in the owner’s new home. Simple to install, the wall-hung system is ideal for households with above average hot water demands.

FlowSmart pre-heats mains cold water using reclaimed boiler flue gases. It then passes through the thermal store’s stainless-steel coil heat exchanger where it is heated further by surrounding hot water from the central heating system. From this, the water will then pass through a blending valve, where it is controlled to an optimum 30ºC before entering the boiler. Mains water is therefore pre-heated and the boiler’s workload is significantly reduced. This allows the system to perform efficiently and reduce fuel use, while successfully improving the hot water flow rate.

Along with the FlowSmart system, the Climatic RF controller was installed in an upstairs hallway to maximise the system efficiency. Available in wired and wireless versions, it is a multi-channel time and temperature programmer with integrated thermostat and BUS system to transfer data between the boiler and the controller. The Alpha Climatic RF control is also classed as an Enhanced Load Compensator, so can be installed in order to meet the Boiler Plus regulations. In this particular case, the GasSaver element within the FlowSmart also ensures compliance.

Featured products

FlowSmart

Ideal for homes with above average hot water demands, FlowSmart negates the need for a large, permanent store of hot water.

GasSaver

Fitting a GasSaver 'top box' to our boilers is a simple way of taking energy efficiency to a higher level.

Positioned neatly above the boiler, this compact unit extracts heat from waste gases that are normally expelled into the atmosphere through the boiler flue. This is then used to preheat cold mains water before entering the boiler.

As the boiler is heating warmed water rather than cold, an average 35% less gas is used to produce hot water, reducing your energy bills and saving up to half a ton of carbon per year.

Climatic

The Alpha Climatic modulating remote control has been specifically designed to work with our E-Tec range of boilers to maximise boiler and system efficiency.
