ALPHA BOILERS SPECIFIED FOR COLLEGE HEATING RENOVATION

Alpha Heating Innovation’s ARES Tec and ProTec Plus boilers were recently installed as part of a heating system refurbishment at Scarborough Sixth Form College in North Yorkshire. The boilers were specified due to their outstanding modulating capability and fuel efficiency, allowing the college to reduce its utility bills.

Scarborough Sixth Form College required two new boilers as part of the overall investment into a new heating system, one in each plant room on the site. M&E Contractor, ASH Integrated Services was selected to carry out the work following a tender process.

“I was briefed by the client on their requirements and budget,” commented Howard Jackson, Projects Director at ASH Integrated Services. “We needed a system with a high modulating capability to ensure that efficiency and boiler longevity would be maximised. With this in mind, two Alpha products stood out – the ARES Tec 200kW floor standing boiler and the ProTec Plus 90 kW wall hung boiler.

Both have an outstanding turn down ratio, meaning they can run at a very low output when required, helping to save energy. We specified the ProTec Plus and the ARES Tec for a different part of the college where a higher output and modulating range was required.”

Alpha’s ARES Tec 200kW boiler is a compact floor standing high output modular condensing boiler that provides a flexible and efficient commercial heating solution and an impressive modulation range of up to 1:39. Each heat-generating module within the boiler has its own down-fire pre-mix gas burner, fan, ignition and safety controls, allowing each to work independently and offering built in redundancy. Optimum load matching is also ensured to minimise wasteful boiler cycling and maximise energy efficiency.

Similarly, the ProTec Plus 90kW gas condensing boiler offers a modulation ratio of 1:10. Easy to install, it features a stainless steel heat exchanger for maximum combustion performance and safety. With four models available ranging from 50 to 115kW it is ideal for large domestic or commercial applications. Furthermore, it has ultra-low NOx emissions of less than 23ppm.

With the solution specified and approved by the college, the next stage was the installation. Although the ASH team had not installed either of the Alpha boilers before, the process went very smoothly.

“Both products were extremely easy to install. If we had any queries, Alpha’s technical department was exceptional, especially Commercial Product Engineer Daniel Sturch who helped with all of our queries. We will certainly be recommending Alpha boilers for future projects.”

Finally, the college also benefits from the fact that Alpha’s ARES Tec boilers come with a two year warranty out of the box, which can be upgraded to five years with the addition of a plate heat exchanger. The ProTec Plus has a five year warranty as standard.

ProTec Plus system boilers

The high output ProTec Plus range has been designed with siting flexibility in mind. All the boilers are compatible with our open or concentric push-fit flue systems. They are factory-fitted with a 'B23' type flue configuration, which can be changed to 'C' type by fitting the concentric flue adaptor.
